Binzhou Medical University (BMU) is a public provincial medical university in Shandong Province with campuses in Yantai and Binzhou, combining strengths in medicine, science, engineering, management, and education. Its roots trace back to the Medical School of National Shandong University founded in 1946 in Qingdao; it became Qingdao Medical College in 1956, was reorganized as Beizhen Medical College in 1981, and took the name Binzhou Medical College in 1983 before developing its main campus in Yantai in 2002. Over time, BMU has grown into an application‑oriented institution with a strong regional role in training healthcare professionals for Shandong and beyond.

Within this history, BMU has developed a distinctive tradition in medical and health‑science education. It offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in clinical medicine and related disciplines, supported by two top‑level affiliated general hospitals, multiple non‑direct affiliated and teaching hospitals, and more than 140 practical teaching bases that provide extensive clinical training resources. The university is also nationally recognized for pioneering higher medical education for people with disabilities, having launched China’s first undergraduate program specifically for disabled students in 1985 and later expanding opportunities for visually and hearing‑impaired students.

Binzhou Medical University emphasizes cultivating practical and socially responsible medical professionals through the integration of teaching, research, rehabilitation, and clinical service. Its English‑medium MBBS program and other international offerings attract students from countries including Pakistan, supported by recognized curricula, modern facilities, and strong clinical partnerships that help graduates pursue medical licensing and careers at home and abroad.
